For newer versions of Internet Explorer: IE7 and IE8
1. Select File, then click on Import and Export. (This will start the "Import/Export Wizard".)
2. Select Export (because you are exporting your favorites to your documents folder or jumpdrive.), then click "next".
3. Select Favorites and click on "next".
4. In the next window you can accept the default Directory - or you can choose a new one. If you choose My Documents, remember what you name your file. Type a file name. Click on "next".
5. Finally, click on "finish" and your Favorites will be saved to the Desktop as a html or htm file. You can save it to a jumpdrive, cd, or email it to yourself as a file.
Now....to Import these back once you have a new hard drive -
1. Select File, then click on Import and Export.
2. This time select Import (you didn't know you were in the Exporting and Importing business, did ya.), click "next".
3. Browse to your saved copy of the html file in your document folder. It may be called "favorites.htm" (or html) or "bookmarks.htm" (or html). Then, follow the wizard - and your existing bookmarks will be replaced.)
Wanna try Social Bookmarking?
If you want to experiment, and why wouldn't we? We have so much time! (Just kidding - please don't hurt me.)
You can save your bookmarks/favorites online just as easily as you save them by clicking your favorite tab. And it is so convenient to access them from any computer with Internet access - not just from one computer.
These are Social Bookmarks - so they are public, that means anyone can view them. But, no personal identifiable information is saved on their servers.
Social Bookmark Websites:
http://www.linkagogo.com/ (I really liked this name - it reminds me of the 60's)
http://www.spurl.net/ (Well...you guessed it - it sounds like hurling...sorry.)
http://delicious.com/ - not available at school, but used worldwide.
There are many more - just Google "online bookmark manager".
